BC Netball honours National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Today, BC Netball acknowledges and remembers those who were lost, who did not return home and to honour the healing journey of Indigenous survivors and communities. BC Netball continues to commit and understand the Truth and respect the Reconciliation journey through personal understanding, and inclusion and empowerment of current and future Indigenous netball players. We ask all netball clubs and members in BC to take the time to reflect on this day and further your learning about the shared history and the meaning of reconciliation. BC Netball honours this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day – Every Child Matters.
Personal commitments you could take to honor this day:
- Donate to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society: www.irsss.ca or contact your local First Nations community who may be able to suggest where to appropriately donate
- Wear an Orange Shirt
- Reflecting and acknowledging the unceded territories we play netball on: www.native-land.ca
- Doing your own research to get a deeper understanding into Canada’s history and Indigenous peoples
