BC Netball Leadership Scholarship

Exciting news! BC Netball now has scholarships available for students. The BC Netball Leadership Scholarships are an open competition for students who aremembers of the British Columbia Netball Association. The purpose of the scholarships is to
recognize those who have contributed to the sport of netball in BC through leadership and
service. The scholarships will be awarded to the candidates who best demonstrate leadership
and service to the BC Netball Association.

Selection Committee
The Selection Committee will be comprised of members of the BC Netball Board of Directors.
Eligibility
To be eligible, a candidate must:
• Be a member of the BC Netball Association
• Be completing grade 12 in a BC Secondary School or be a student currently enrolled in post-secondary education program in BC who is planning to continue their post-secondary education in BC. Candidates who are not currently in school but are enrolling in a post-secondary education program in BC by next Fall may be considered.

Basis of Selection
The successful candidate will be selected based on demonstrating the following:
Playing
1. Committed to playing netball in the future
2. Currently plays on a netball team
3. Does not miss netball practice
4. Is always on time for netball practice
5. Demonstrates team leadership
6. Demonstrates a strong ethic
7. Demonstrates a positive rapport with others on and of the court

Service through Volunteering
1. Scorekeeps at netball games and practices
2. Volunteers at netball games, tournaments, fundraisers, and other events
3. Organizes netball events such as fundraisers or tournaments

Service through Coaching
1. Coaching netball in high-school, elementary, or league teams

2. Coaching netball at a higher level such as the BC provincial teams, for example U16 or
U18
3. Has obtained or is working towards Netball Canada coaching certification

Service through Umpiring
1. Umpiring at netball games and practices
2. Has obtained or is working towards earning Netball Canada umpiring qualifications

Service through Administration
1. Actively contributing as a committee member for Netball Metro Vancouver, Local Clubs
(e.g., Kelowna/Barrière), BCNA or Netball Canada

References
1. The inclusion of two references who can comment on your character and leadership
inside and outside of Netball.
2. It is encouraged to share any additional information that further demonstrates your
eligibility for this award.

Value of Scholarship
For the 2022/2023 application cycle, BCNA is offering three scholarships of $1,000 each.

Application Submission Deadline
Candidates may submit applications to info@bcnetball.ca.
The deadline for submission of the BC Netball Leadership Scholarship Application is July 31,
2023.
Scholarship money will be forwarded to the successful candidates after the BCNA Board of
Directors receives a receipt for tuition payment to an eligible post-secondary education
program in BC.
If the total value of eligible tuition payment receipts received is for less than the value of the
scholarship awarded, only the amount equal to the total value of eligible tuition payment
receipts received will be forwarded to the successful candidate. Additional receipts may be
submitted for disbursement of remaining funds until either the full value of the scholarship has
been forwarded to the candidate, or 365 days has elapsed since the initial announcement of
the successful candidate, after which any remaining scholarship money not yet forwarded to
the successful candidate will be forfeited.
